OTTAWA – Today, the Democracy Education Network launched its VoteParty.ca and VotePromise.ca initiatives to increase the number of voters, especially young voters, who vote in the Ontario election.

The launch includes a Canadian celebrity montage video on the VoteParty.ca homepage featuring Rick Mercer, chart-topping band MAGIC!, Ashley Carlingbull (actress and Mrs. Universe), Michelle Morgan (from CBC’s “Heartland”) and Elena Juatco (from ABC’s “Open Heart”).

That VoteParty.ca video will reach about 1 million Ontario voters over the next two weeks – mainly through being shown before movies in 67 Cineplex theatres across Ontario from May 26th to June 7th election day.  The video will also be shared with voters across the province via VoteParty.ca’s Facebook page and Twitter account.

The VoteParty/VotePromise initiatives reached 3.5 million voters during the 2015 federal election and helped increase voter turnout in that election by more than 7% -- the highest increase from election to election since Confederation.

VoteParty.ca isn’t urging young voters to vote, it invites young voters to Make a #VoteDate with a non-voter and take them to vote with you at advance polls from May 26th to June 7th or on election day June 7th.

And VotePromise.ca invites older voters to Make the #VotePromise and help a non-voter vote at advance polls from May 26th to June 7th or on election day June 7th.

Don’t vote alone, Vote Promise to Vote Party together.

And then all are invited to organize a local Vote Party on June 7th and upload their party details and send out invitations at: http://voteparty.ca/vote_parties

Share your reaction to the election results, and what’s going at your local Vote Party, through the Ontario-wide Vote Party on June 7th election night on Twitter with #VoteParty, and on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/events/1698955386889809/
